Another Nerf on the Raid

Ok so Blizzard has announced yet another nerf,

After each region's maintenance this week, raids will no longer lose attempts on wipes in Normal mode for Professor Putricide, Blood-Queen Lana'thel, Sindragosa, and the Lich King. There will still be limited attempts in Heroic mode.

We will continue to monitor developments in Icecrown Citadel in the future, especially since the Heroic difficulty has been unlocked by a significant number of raids.

I personally have not completed ICC. Very few people have. I have made my attempts on Putricide, and that is where my raid group currently is. Many hard core raiders, although they have not downed the Lich King, are frustrated by this change. One of my friends, who is in one of the top five raiding guilds on our server, is really annoyed with this nerf. I know many raiders, just like him are frustrated with how easy this entire expansion is.

Has Blizzard made this entire expansion too easy? Where it is puggable? and doable by any casual raiding guild? I suppose that is why they introduced hard modes. Since many people haven't unlocked the hardmodes in ICC yet, it is too early to tell if the hard core raiders will be satisfied. I like being able to go into ICC, as more of a casual raider, but I don't like all of the nerfs. I like working hard for a long time to achieve something, and I didn't mind the attempts in normal mode. It creates a challenge, and players can truly feel a sense of achievement. I wonder if players who are even more casual than myself are excited about the nerfs in raids. For me I like the counter because it creates a goal. To down the bosses with so many attempts left. This is truly the expansion for PuGs, and I am interested to see if Blizzard plans on releasing more challenging content, that is not puggable so easily, in the next xpac.

This isn't a nerf, per se. The gating was always intended to be temporary to make it more competitive when ICC was first released.

Personally, I'm confused as to why so many people are upset about the gating being removed, since all I ever heard when ICC was released was how stupid the gating was in the first place.

I didn't see anyone popping up on the forums to say "hey this gating thing is good, i like it, gj blizz!" In fact, I saw no positive feedback anywhere, including in the blogging community.

I'm pretty surprised how many people are disappointed that it's going away (as always planned and documented) when so few, if any, had anything nice to say about it in the first place.

I guess when the raiders got in there and got some experience they enjoyed the extra challenge. I think raiders are just getting frustrated with the accessibility of end game content available to pugs.

Hmm Keep 80 % of the WOW participants happy and have 3% of the WOW participants have their ego kicked because others can do it. Makes sense to me, you have to keep the particpation up or you loss money.

Well, TBH though, I'm really glad to have the ability to see the actual end of an Expansion.

When I started WoW, we were at the middle/endish of TBC. I raided in Kara, Gruul, and some parts of SSC. I never saw Black temple nor Sunwell.

Maybe if I had started earlier, I could have, but I don't think with the group of people that we were raiding with and the amount of time I had to actually raid, this was unlikely going to be the case.

I understand accessibility and such that really jammed people up. It just felt to me that once you hit 70, you ran heroics to gear up for Kara. Kara to Gruul was a gradual step, then off to Black Temple. Most never made that leap and if you did, you left our raiding group to have the opportunity to raid with higher end folks. Thus, leaving us to go back to Heroics & Kara againt to gear up our newer recruits.

This time around, I'm proud to say that I've never raided with a better bunch of people in my wow career. I'm pumped to actually have the chance to see the end of an Expansion as it should be.

I'm proud to say that we will see the Lich King fall!

In regards to the "Gating" question, I think it's a good time to drop it. I would like to get a few cracks at each boss before the "helping Aura" begins. The hardcore got through to Arthus, the good raiders are working towards the end parts, the mediocure raiders are stuck somewhere in the middle (attempting Putricide, Blood Council and such) and beginners are wiping on Marrowgar's Bone spikes.

I believe that Blizzard has done a great job with evolving from the mentality of "only hardcore get's to see the goods" to if you work hard enough, you can see it eventually.

I see where you guys are coming from. I enjoy being able to see ICC. But it still saddens me that PuGs can do anything, I can't wait to see how guilds are rewarded in the next xpac.
